WAB Questions for Jervis

1. When using 'Alexander and his Successor' Armies (page 16,17 AoA)  do you use the Phalanx rules written there or those of the Ancient Greeks? I ask you this because I feel that maybe the last line of the description (about not wheeling) has 'fallen off' the page. Please let me know this, because I want to do this right.

A: Use the rules in the Successor list. It reflects the fact that phalangites were trained professionals compared to the citizen militia that made up a Greek city-state phalanx.

2. Can a phalanx also 'slide' to the left, as you only mention them sliding right? (heheheh ;-))

A: No.

3.Could you recommend one or more books (and/or Webpages, Magazines, etc) about the Ancient Greeks and those of Alexander's age as I am really interested in the uniforms, army composition, background, etc.

A: I'd check out the Opsrey books on the period, and if you can track them down any of Peter Connely's books on the Greeks and Romans at war. Finally, keep an eye out for any of Charles Grant's wargames books covering the ancient period; they are slightly dated now, but are still the best written and most inspirational ancient wargaming material ever produced.
