Background
Late in the Egyptian New Kingdom period, the Mediterranean region suffered invasions by marauding raiders known as the Sea Peoples. With names like the Sherden, Peleset, Lukka, Skeklesh, Teresh and Ekwesh, these tribes moved both by land from Anatolia and by sea. Their origin is not certain, but may be Anatolian or Achean following the upheavals of the Trojan war.
The raiders in Egypt allied with the Libyan tribes. Whilst the Libyans invaded egypt from the west, they penetrated into the Nile delta, where a major naval battle was fought against them by the fleet of Pharaoh Rameses III.
TheWargames Scenario:
The scenario is a hypothetical battle between an Egyptian force and the marauding Sea Peoples tribes they were sent to expel. The encounter is fairly small in scale, representing a relatively minor incursion and a punitive force.
Setup can be on any terrain desired by the players on a 6 x 5 table or larger. A waterway may be on one of the short table edges for the Sea Peoples to land.
Scenario special rules:
1. Forces are deployed in the deployment areas allocated on the map.
2. The Egyptians move first.
3. The sea peoples may land from ships up to 25% of their force as a flank march on the waterway flank
4. The Game lasts for six turns, or until one side is decisively defeated.
The Forces:
Forces are taken from the New Kingdom Egyptian list and the Sea-Peoples troop types from the same list in the Chariot Wars supplement for WAB. Troop types and special rules from those lists apply for the scenario.
The scenario uses a troop scale of 50:1 (ie 50 men to each wargames figure or model). The composition of forces is deduced from the various primary and secondary sources.
The Egyptians need 10 x chariots, 20 x chariot runners, 20 x spearmen, 20 x archers, 20 x marines and 20 x nubians. The Sea Peoples need 40 x sherden, 40 x peleset, 40 x sea peoples, and 20 x skirmishers.
A detailed breakdown follows in the Order of Battle for the two armies.
